Ok you have to ask your self Is the room I will be putting it in a bright area meaning well lite by Natural light or man made? Plasmas are great for viewing at any angle in low light ie movie theater. lcd not so good at any angle but good in a well lighted area. it all depends if you like to watch tv with the lights on or off. hope this helps. i own a plasma and love it great at any angle. but it puts off a lot of heat. but i still love it .

the TV may not have an HD reciever…without this it will not get the local HD channels. i know the newer TV's mostly have them but the older DLP's sometimes dont. read up more on your TV to see if it can recieve HD over air or over cable.

One - your TV needs to have a QAM tuner to be able to do this.

Two - you need to make sure the tuner is set for cable channels, not for over the air.

Then it should be able to scan the channels and find the "clear QAM" channels carried on the cable.

Note that the cable company is free to move the HD OTA channels around from one "clear QAM" channel to another, so you may have to re-scan from time to time… maybe often.

Even if your sources are not HD, you should be using a better connection. The composite connection (yellow red white) is the poorest video interface. If possible use component (red blue green plus red/white) or HDMI. If you can't use those, then at least use s-video (4-pin round connector plus red/white).

This is a pretty complex question but you don't give enough details to formulate a perfect answer. The generic one would be to make sure that you have an HD source that is going to the TV. You can't get that from the composite connection you're using. That's the red white and yellow RCA jacks that you have hooked up. Assuming that your sources can output HD signals then you should be using at the least component inputs or at best HDMI connectors. I'd check the documentation that came with both your game system and contact directv to assure that you have a box that can output an HD signal.
